O2 Development, Greenwich

Armstrong Priestley is proud to have undertaken the active fire protection installation in this mixed use development which included the protection to apartments and hotel. The O2 development is situated on the banks of the River Thames, and directly next to London’s prominent O2 Arena, Greenwich.

The InterContinental hotels with 453 luxury guest rooms, suites and sky bar on the 18th floor was protected with a low pressure, Minimax – EconAqua water mist extinguishing system and consisted of over 3500 water mist nozzles, twin fire pump set and dual water storage tank. The EconAqua water mist system is the only system on the market which has third party approval by VDS for risks up to Ordinary Hazard Group II after extensive full scale fire testing.

The 140 apartments over 24 floors were protected with a fire sprinkler system design to BS 9251. Each dwelling had an individual system installed with including individual control valves. The sprinkler systems within the apartments are supplied by the boosted cold water system, thus reducing space required by additional pumps and water storage.
In addition to the active fire protection systems we also installed two wet riser system for the hotel and apartments designed to BS 9990. Each system has separate water supplies which included duplicated pumps feed from a split water storage tank allowing for redundancy.
