Awarded - Leeds West Academy

Armstrong Priestley has been awarded a £250,000 contract by Interserve Engineering Services for the installation of a fire sprinkler system at Leeds West Academy.  The installation will consist of over 2500 sprinkler heads fed by a central water supply.

The new school will be a state-of-the-art building with facilities designed around three hubs: Innovation, Communications and Diversity.  The Communications hub will include a library, theatre space and a dance studio.

Armstrong Priestley has been involved from an early stage of this project and has provide assistance to the design team in finding solutions to incorporate the fire sprinkler in to the theatre to ensure that the sprinkler protection is installed  sympathetically to the character of the space.  Armstrong Priestley was also able to advise on ‘best practice’ for fire sprinkler systems which will now shorten the design program.

Chris Edwards, chief executive of Education Leeds, said, “This is the latest example of Education Leeds transforming learning through state-of-the–art buildings and facilities. The new Leeds West Academy building will be another brilliant, 21st Century learning environment where children and young people can achieve success and reach their full potential.”

The Academy is expected to open in September 2011.
