Challenge College is a new build 8000m2 secondary school and City learning centre for adult education completed in 2002. The College has four floors, sports hall and an extensive central glazed atrium. Armstrong Priestley designed and installed the automatic sprinkler installation throughout the school. The system was designed to BS 5306 part 2 including ‘life safety’ requirements as required by Building Regulations, Document ‘B’. As with all ‘life safety’ sprinkler installations the system was zoned and had duplicate water supplies consisting of two water storage tanks and two electric pump sets. The installation of the sprinkler installation allowed the architect design freedoms, which resulted in the large central glass atrium. |
