West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, as a responsible employer and to demonstrate its commitment to fire sprinklers as a ‘life saving' technology, have installed a fire sprinkler system into a three storey training block at its Birkenshaw Headquarters. The installation provides protection over three floors to training and conference facilities, administration offices, plant room and the appliance bay. The system is designed to BS 5306: Part 2, Ordinary Hazard Group I classification. The water supply is taken from a town's main connection, which proved to be more than adequate for the risk. This feeds a 100mm wet installation control valve and a pressure switch was installed to provide an electronic warning signal, which is relayed to an alarm panel in the entrance foyer. The sprinkler heads chosen for the administration and office areas are the fully recessed concealed type where only the white cover plate is visible in the ceiling. By using the RapidropTM fitting system installation time could be saved which allowed this project to be completed on time. |
